Embodyoga:

Exploring the Koshas and Associated Elements
The yoga tradition (see Gaudapada’s Mandukya Karika, referring to the Taittireya Upanishad) teaches that we are made up of Koshas, or layers of being. Shankara said that a Kosha is like a sheath that holds a sword, and the more gross sheaths contain the more subtle ones in succession like russian nesting dolls. In the Koshas we find the many layers of ourselves, encompassing the physical body, the energy body, the mind, the heart, and the pure delight of existence itself.
The seat of our awareness can move between the various layers, allowing us to perceive life and ourselves more fully. As we do so, our vantage point shifts and deepens, and with it all of our perceptions. The map of the koshas and associated elements help us to know how the Divine One manifests into form and flows back into the consciousness of unity.
Join us for a dynamic journey into the Koshas - the five layers/sheaths of awareness and the elements embodied within each. This video series includes an introduction to the philosophy of the Koshas, a guided Yoga Nidra (deep relaxation) that takes you through these layers, a video that highlights a yoga asana practice for each of the layers and elements, and a full gentle-moderate 1.5 hour yoga asana class that weaves together the whole exploration.
These Embodyoga® videos will take you on a spiralic journey through annamaya kosha (earth element), pranamaya kosha (water element), manomaya kosha (fire element), vijñanamaya (air element), and anandamaya kosha (ether element). Throughout the journey we invoke the ultimate presence of the indwelling One, helping you to perceive yourself and the nature of reality more clearly.
